Jupiter Fund Management is the latest fund manager to gain a Highly Rated Provider rating from SharingAlpha, the platform that enables professional fund buyers to rate products and build a track record of fund selection.
SharingAlpha, which is free to use for fund selectors globally, is able to quantify expectations around the future performance of individual funds, based on the selections made on its platform by participating users.
These selections also form the basis of its provision of ratings for fund manufacturers.
The Highly Rated Provider status is is given to providers that have over 50 ratings and on average their fund ratings are above 3 (on the SharingAlpha scale). The option to exhibit the relevant logo on marketing material is now being taken up by fund providers.
As a database, the SharingAlpha ratings are based on expectations of funds’ chances of outperforming in future – rather than being based on past performance data, which drives ratings from other databases.
The three parameters – or 3 P’s – on which the fund rating is determined – which in turn is used to determine Highly Rated Provider status – are factors that are expected to influence future performance: People: The experience and competitive edge of the fund manager and their team; Price: The cost of the fund; Portfolio: The investment strategy.
SharingAlpha later calculates the average ratings assigned to each fund while it only takes into account ratings from those that they can identify as professional fund buyers. Furthermore, in order to improve the quality of the aggregate ratings, instead of using an equal averaging of the rankings they provide a higher weighting to raters that have a better track performance on the platform.
