London-based investment firm New Sparta Asset Management (NSAM) has appointed Jeff Kirby as managing director of its new Real Estate division that targets opportunities in emerging markets.
Previously involved in running a property and fund management platform in Central and Eastern Europe, Kirby will join Stelian Mitu in the new division. Mitu was previously an investment director at a $3bn New York-based emerging markets fund.
Kirby said the developments at NSAM would enable investors to capitalise on the asset class in two ways from growth economies.
“We are very excited by the untapped opportunity, particularly amongst companies in the pre-initial public offering stage. NSAM stands out for the exceptional investment pedigree of its principals, its unique approach, breadth of experience developing projects in emerging markets, and a robust pipeline of investment opportunities. I am convinced we have an opportunity with NSAM to build a market leading EM real estate player,” Kirby said.
Kirby’s appointment comes just a few months after NSAM launched New Sparta Energy (NSE). The subsidiary, specialised in the development of renewable power projects in Africa, strenghtened its team earlier this month with the hires of David Anson as director and head of development, Richard Scott as project director, and Camille Astier as legal director.
