7orca Asset Management AG (7orca) was granted a license as a financial services provider by the German Federal Supervisory Authority (BaFin) in November 2017, in accordance with Section 32 of the German Banking Act (KWG).
The independent asset manager was founded by the seven partners Tindaro Siragusano, Jasper Düx, Thimo Koch, Holger Bang, Arne Decknatel, Ulrich Janus, Tom Pansegrau and Jochen Runze. The team, led by Tindaro Siragusano, already has 13 experienced employees.
While “7” reflects the number of founding partners, orca stands for overlay, risk, currency and alpha. The focus is on currency overlay management and short volatility strategies. The target group are institutional investors.
Tindaro Siragusano (CEO), Jasper Düx (CIO), Thimo Koch (CRO/CCO) and Holger Bang, Arne Decknatel, Ulrich Janus, Tom Pansegrau and Jochen Runze previously held senior positions at Bankhaus Berenberg. At Berenberg, they built up the asset management business, which also specialises in overlay management and short volatility, with assets under management of about €17bn.
In addition to the seven partners, the pension fund of the Zahnärztekammer Berlin and the Munich-based asset manager Assenagon are involved in 7orca AM.
Ralf Wohltmann, director of the pension fund and chairman of the supervisory board of 7orca said: “We look forward to supporting the team and will be mandating the company with approximately €300m.”
