Spain’s Santander Group has appointed Dirk Marzluf as group head of technology and operations.
Marzluf, who succeeds Andreu Plaza, will join on 1 September and will be based between Madrid and London.
The new appointment, approved by the Grupo Santander board of directors but pending of regulatory approvals, will report to the Group chief executive officer.
Marzluf will be responsible for leading the development of the long-term strategy of information management and operations at Santander Group, and will coordinate and supervise the local implementation and administration of the Group’s Information Technology and Operations services, in close collaboration with the country and local heads of IT and Operations.
The new appointment joins Santander from AXA Group, where he worked as Group chief information officer (CIO) since 2013 leading the insurance group’s technology and information security transformation, its overall project portfolio and as co-sponsor of its digital strategy.
At AXA, he was responsible for overseeing a team of more than 5,000 employees in 15 countries. He also worked at Accenture, Daimler Chrysler and Winterthur Group holding global technology leadership roles.
Ana Botín, executive chairman of Banco Santander, said: “Marzluf is a proven IT and Ops senior executive in both strategy and execution. His experience in leading large multi-country organisations through successful change will serve Grupo Santander well as we continue to transform our business into the open financial services platform we aim to be. Dirk’s solution-orientated approach and strong technical and leadership skills will help us be the best partner for our customers, employees, shareholders and suppliers.
“On behalf of the entire team, I want to thank Andreu for his commitment and successful leadership of our technology transformation over the past three years. He has laid strong foundations, attracted a top team and always been an example to all of us. The model and plan that he has put in place will continue to serve us well. Andreu will remain involved in this work by serving as T&O advisor to CEO Jose Antonio Alvarez and as a director in subsidiary boards.”
