Distribution challenges facing both larger and boutique sized asset managers will be under the spotlight at the Association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry Global Distribution Conference, taking place 19-20 September in the Grand Duchy.
The conference will outline both the current state of distribution globally – for example, through the presentation of research by Cerulli Associates – and expectations of ways distribution may change in future – for example, through presentation of research by MackayWilliams.
Developments in the US and Asia will be the focus of discussions involving Alfi and its partner associations NICSA (US) and HKIFA (Hong Kong), with other sessions informing about market and regulatory developments that are intended to facilitate access to funds in Asia, Brazil, Canada, South Africa and Australia.
Passporting developments in Asia, as well as the emerging LatAm passport for funds, will feature, as will the impact of Brexit – where both Luc Frieden, partner at Elvinger Hoss Prussen and former Luxembourg minister of Finance and Paweł Świeboda, deputy head of the European Political Strategy Centre of the European Commission join the discussion.
Giants and Gems
Jonathan Boyd, editorial director of Open Door Media Publishing and InvestmentEurope, will moderate a panel titled Distribution perspective between the Giants and the Gems – Distribution is not a winner takes all game, which will consider questions such as:
- Does scale matter? Does brand recognition matter?
- Is it really easier cutting distribution deals if you are a giant of the industry? Are (smaller) boutiques getting a raw deal from distributors?
- What difference does this make to the end investor simply seeking the best funds?
Panelists set to join this particular discussion include:
Jean Keller, CEO & partner, Quaero Capital S.A.
Christophe Girondel, global head of Distribution, Nordea Asset Management
Albin Rosengren, partner, CEO & head of Sales, East Capital AB
Johan Schreuder, managing director, Investec Asset Management Luxembourg S.A.
Michel Vermeulen, managing director Benelux, Schroders
