BlueBay’s Polina Kurdyavko named sole EMD head

The specialist fixed income manager BueBay Asset Management (BlueBay) has named Polina Kurdyavko as sole head of its emerging market debt (EMD) unit after EMD co-head David Dowsett steps back from funds for new strategic role.
Kurdyavko, currently senior portfolio manager and co-head of EMD at BlueBay, will be responsible for leading the firm’s 30-strong EMD team.
The recently appointed EMD head joined BlueBay in 2005 from UBS, where she was a credit analyst in EM corporate research, responsible for coverage of EM issuers as well as supporting the research for primary issuance of corporate debt. Prior to this, Kurdyavko worked as an EM equity analyst at Alliance Capital moving later on to pioneer emerging markets quantitative research at the firm. She started her career in a macro research boutique in Russia.
Dowsett, currenly co-head of EMD at BlueBay, will work as a strategic adviser for EM. He joined BlueBay in 2002 from Deutsche Asset Management (formerly Morgan Grenfell Asset Management) where he was a board director responsible for EM.
Both Dowsett and Kurdyavko – whose new positions will be made effective in July 2018 – will continue reporting to chief investment officer Raphael Robelin.
Raphael Robelin said: “Dowsett and Kurdyavko’s new respective roles highlight BlueBay’s determination to continually deepen the level of expertise we offer our clients in an evolving asset class. Dowsett’s focus on longer term structural trends in the market, coupled with Kurdyavko’s continued leadership of the emerging markets investment team underscores our commitment to being at the forefront of investing for clients.”
