US headquartered asset manager BlackRock has launched the BlackRock Impact Bond fund.
The strategy invests in a fixed income portfolio including corporate bonds of companies with positive aggregate societal impact outcomes (corporate citizenship, high impact disease research, greenhouse gas emissions, ethics controversies, and litigation) as determined by BlackRock.
The fund is run by the firm’s model based fixed income team and has the Barclays US Aggregate Bond Index for benchmark.
“Impact investing seeks to enable investors to achieve competitive returns while targeting transparent, measurable social and environmental goals,” said Deborah Winshel, managing director and global head of Impact Investing at BlackRock.
BlackRock Impact currently manages $200bn (€177.1bn) of assets and is part of BlackRock’s group whose AUM reached $4.89trn (€4.33trn) as of 30 June 2016.
