San Francisco-based Matthews Asia has appointed Lindsay Wright to be head of Asia and global chief operating officer, based in Hong Kong.
Wright previously was co-head of Investment Management and head of Distribution, APAC at BNY Mellon. She has more than 30 years of professional experience, mostly based in the Asia Pacific region.
Her new role includes responsibility for growing Matthews Asia’s Asia business. The manager has had an office in Hong Kong since 2010. In early 2018 it established a so-called Wholly Foreign-Owned Enterprise (WFOE) in Shanghai, to explore business opportunities on the Chinese mainland. An office is also being established in Singapore, and the manager is currently seeking to make new hires for both that location and Hong Kong, including to build its ability to provide client services.
William Hackett, CEO, noted that “Asia remains central to the firm’s future development and long-term focus and we will continue to commit resources to support our growth strategy in the region. The opening of these two new offices is consistent with our global expansion efforts that began in Hong Kong eight years ago and demonstrates the potential we see in building on our existing relationships in Asia and providing a long-term commitment to servicing our clients in the region.”
