Germany’s Feri EuroRating Services is preparing to hand out its annual award for fund innovations.

Germany’s Feri EuroRating Services is preparing to hand out its annual award for fund innovations.

The European rating agency for investment research and rating will pick one from a list of five funds available on the German, Austrian or Swiss markets. The awards will take place on November 27.

Three of the funds nominated for the award are exchange traded funds, reflecting the growing dominance of this product for investors in the German speaking markets.

The trio consists of JPMorgan Macro Hedge Dual Enhanced – an ETF investing in the European and US stock market volatility; PIMCO Short Term High Yield – a semi-active ETF offering access to US short term high yield bonds; and Vanguard’s S&P500 ETF.

The other two nominees are HSBC GIF India Fixed Income and Goldman Sachs GIVI Global Equity – Growth Markets Tilt Portfolio.

HSBC’s fund is the first to provide exposure to the Indian bond market. The fund was launched in August and is managed by the firm’s head of Asian rates, Gordon Rodrigues.

The Goldman Sachs fund is based on the S&P GIVI Global Growth Markets Tilt index, which lists 70% of equities with the lowest volatility, weighted according to their book values. Country weightings are derived based on the size of each country’s gross domestic product.

The jury of experts in charge of picking a winner will include Kurt Michael Becker from German-language news source Institutional Money, Ingo Narat from Germany’s Handelsblatt and Michael Partin from ifund services.

Tobias Schmidt, CEO of Feri EuroRatings, said: “The Fund Innovations special award cites not just the degree of innovation characterising a certain fund concept, but also the longevity of the investment idea.”

Feri will also hand out awards for 16 other categories during the Feri EuroRating Awards 2013, which will take place on the same date in November.

The list of categories includes regional equities for Asia, emerging markets, America and other regions, balanced funds, bond funds and equity ETFs.

The full list of nominated funds can be viewed here.
