Dutch asset manager Kempen Capital Management has launched a multi-asset impact investing fund of funds, the Global Impact Pool.
It is a sub-fund of the firm’s Luxembourg-domiciled Kempen Alternative Markets Fund Sicav and aims to make investments in funds that primarily contribute to five of the 17 sustainable development goals set by the United Nations.
The 17 SDGs introduced by the UN seek to render the world more prosperous and bring it on a sustainable development path by 2030. The five goals selected for the Global Impact Pool include: ‘good health and wellbeing’ (SDG 3), ‘clean water and sanitation’ (SDG 6), ‘decent work and economic growth’ (SDG 8), ‘affordable and clean energy’ (SDG 7), and ‘responsible consumption and production’ (SDG 12).
In the Global Impact Pool, Kempen will select high-quality impact funds targeting market-level financial returns and which incorporated ESG (environmental, social, governance) criteria at a high standard.
The majority of investments are expected to be in private and illiquid asset classes. Kempen specifies that the fund will invest in non-listed investment strategies such as private equity, infrastructure and private debt and may also invest in a select number of public investment strategies such as green bonds if there is a clear link with SDGs.
Kempen will report the outcomes and impact results of the fund’s underlying investments on a quarterly and annual basis, including the number of jobs created, the amount of CO2 emissions reduced and the quantity of renewable energy produced.
Marjoleine van der Peet, senior portfolio manager, and Narina Mnatsakanian, director responsible investment and impact investment will be responsible for the daily management of the Kempen Global Impact Pool.
Mnatsakanian explained: ‘The Global Impact Pool enables us to effectively pool client’s capital together. We offer clients who want to make impact investments an efficient option for allocation across multiple asset classes. In addition, we are offering diversified investments across emerging and developed markets. The launch of the Global Impact Pool is a logical next step for Kempen, not just because its intentional to invest in solutions to societal challenges, but also given the expertise in sustainable long-term investing Kempen has built up over the years.’
The Global Impact Pool is available to investors in the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and the United Kingdom.
