Baki Irmak and Stefan Waldhauser, fund initiators, together with Universal Investment have launched Digital Leaders fund. The globally investing equity fund focuses on the winners of digitisation in a concentrated portfolio.
Investments are made in companies that are optimally positioned for the digital age. Unlike other funds, it not only invests in digital start-ups or in major platforms such as Google, Amazon and Facebook.
“We believe that digital transformation is the largest change and the biggest investment opportunity of our time. In the long term, we want to invest in companies that profit from digitization and offer the prospect of substantial price gain”, said Stefan Waldhauser, co-initiator of the fund.
The investment strategy makes a distinction between three types of companies: digital transformation leaders, which are traditional companies that have reached a very high level of digital maturity and are setting themselves apart from their competitors and dominating their industry.
Secondly, digital business leaders are often relatively young companies from the digital age who are significantly changing their industry with completely new business models and platforms and often dominate individual market segments.
The third group is formed by digital enablers, companies that use their hardware or software to deliver the critical technologies or services they need to make the digital transformation possible.
