A Leg To Stand On (ALTSO), the non-profit organisation providing free orthopaedic care including prosthetic limbs, orthotic devices, mobility aids, and rehabilitative care to children in the developing world, is launching its first Annual Rocktoberfest gig in London on 6 June, in which members of the hedge fund and private equity communities will take to the stage to raise money for the charity’s projects.
This first London event takes place at follows on from previous fundraising events in New York and Chicago, where they have been going for 15 and seven years respectively. The event takes place at 8 Northumberland Avenue, a former Victorian hotel.
Performers’ day jobs usually take place in financial firms such as Societe Generale, PAAMCO, Simmons & Simmons, Lombard Odier, Albourne and Apple. Last year the US events raised some $0.9m – money used to help treat children suffering from untreated congenital or traumatic limb disabilities, and whose families often have to survive on less than the equivalent of $3 per day. More than 16,700 children with limb disabilities in Asia, Africa and Latin America have been treated with help from ALTSO since it was founded in 2002. Key sponsors currently include GlobeTax, Lombard Odier, Pictet Asset Management and SteelEye.
Net proceeds raised at the London event will benefit 10 programmes in the three regions.
