Yu Shimizu, lead portfolio manager of the Japan Sustainable Equity strategy at SPARX Group in Tokyo, will outline to delegates the shifting ESG landscape in Japan, when he presents at the InvestmentEurope Pan-European ESG Summit Zurich 2019 on 13-14 June.
His session will start by reviewing the history of Japan from its post-war high-growth era to present day through an ESG lens to better understand the issues the country faces. Ongoing improvements in corporate governance will be discussed, as well as measures taken to overcome population decline - one of the key sustainability issues facing Japan. Examples of actual investments and engagement activities will be included.
Shimizu gained a Bachelors degree in Law from Keio University (Tokyo) in 1998. He has held his lead manager role since 2012. Before joining SPARX in 2005, he worked as an analyst at UFJ Partners Asset Management (currently Mitsubishi UFJ Asset Management) and before that as an analyst at Yasuda Capital Management (currently Yasuda Asset Management). He has 17 years of investment and financial market experience.
