Self Bank Banca Privada, the renewed business of Self Bank following its ownership swap in February, continues the hiring spree for its private banking unit in Spain.
The company has now appointed María Garaygordóbil as wealth director to the revamped private bank led by Javier Marín, Funds People revealed.
With almost two decades' experience, Garaygordóbil joins Self Bank from Edmond de Rothschild. She had previously worked at the private banking division of Banco Santander for 14 years. Prior to that, she worked at Degroof Petercam for over two years after having started her career as a financial adviser at Santander Central Hispano in 2001.
Self Bank Banca Privada announced at the beginning of October an enhancement to its business model, reflected partly on the addition of the words banca privada (private banking) to its re-branded name. According to the firm, the addition aims at emphasising the firm's focus on private banking.
The bank, which recently said it wanted to become "the best private bank in Spain", has also reshaped and expanded the services offered in its online platform.
In addition to the transactional platform of investment funds and pension plans it already had, the bank added financial advisory and discretionary portfolio management services with an open architecture approach. These three areas were also divided and renamed into three different categories: the funds platform is now named You; the financial advisory section You and US; and the discretionary portfolio management service We.
As part of its services expansion, the bank recently announced it would be offering tax advice on business funding and real estate investments as well.
Former Self Bank has been undergoing a progressive transformation process since it was acquired by private equity firm Warburg Pincus and Spanish banking veteran Javier Marín Romano in February 2019.
