UK headquartered Hermes Investment Management has appointed Philip Nell as fund director in Hermes Real Estate, starting on 20 July.

Based in London, Nell will report to Chris Taylor, chief executive of Hermes Real Estate. He joins from Aviva Investors, where he recently held the role of head of European Retail Funds, responsible for some £2.5bn in assets.

The new role at Hermes will focus on developing strategic partnerships and joint ventures in the property area. As fund manager, Nell will run the UK Private Rental Sector fund, which, subject to regulatory approval, Hermes will run alongside partner Countrywide Plc, the UK property market specialist. The fund has been developed to enable institutional investors to access the private rental sector.
